Divyangs were neglected by previous governments: PM

Prayagraj, February 29 (HS) Pitching for “sab kaa saath, sab kaa vikas”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his was the only government which cared a lot for disabled persons. He mentioned several schemes launched by his government exclusively for them.
The Prime Minister who reached here this morning said previous government had not paid much attention to them which is evident from the fact that only a few camps were organized for distribution of aids to such persons.
At the camp here he distributed on Saturday (today) aids to 27,000 disabled persons and senior citizens, creating a world record.The aids included motorized tri-cycles for which he has been a given certificate by the Guinness Book of Records.
He said during the last five years as many as 9000 such camps have been organized during which aids worth Rs 9000 crores were provided.Aids worth no more than Rs 380 crores were distributed earlier.More than 24 crore senior citizens and disabled persons have benefited from two schemes launched by him.
The Prime Minister, after addressing the gathering here, left to lay the foundation stone for Bundelkhand Express -way which will usher in a new era in this drought-prone region.State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel were among those present on the opportunity.At the function here he did not raise any political or economic issue.
He said disabled persons or divyangs have done well in several fields including sports and that his government was committed to provide all necessary help to them.A special center has been set up in Gwalior to provide training to them.Additional facilities have been created in government buildings so that they can meet officials without any difficulty and a word dictionary prepared to help them further.
In education and government jobs reservation has been provided and two lakh such persons given skill development training.In educational institutions their quota has been raised from three to five per cent. scheme was launched three years ago for senior citizens.
The Prime Minister doled out some more figures. He said at over 700 railway stations and airports his journey has been made easy.Efforts are on to cover the left out stations.
At the outset, the PM had himself handed over hearing and other aids to some persons.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had informed that over ten lakh Divyans were covered under the pension scheme in Uttar Pradesh.The pension amount has been raised from Rs 300 to Rs. 500.
