Disha rape and murder case accused killed in encounter
New Delhi/Hyderabad, Dec.06 (HS): The four accused persons of rape and murder case killed at wee hours on Friday near National Highway-44 who were arrested last week after the incident sparked outrage across the country.
But in a shocking twist to a crime that horrified the nation, all four men accused in the gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian in Telangana were killed when they were trying to escape, during investigations at the same spot where the woman’s body was found. The police commissioner of Hyderabad, V.C. Sajjnar, said this morning.
The young woman’s rape and murder had triggered rage and horror across the nation after her body, badly burnt, was found last week near Hyderabad. The four men, Mohammed (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20), had been taken to the scene of the crime at 3 am for a reconstruction as part of investigations, Sajjnar said.
They were at the spot where the charred body of the woman was found, around 60 km from Hyderabad, when, the police claim, one of the men signalled to the others, possibly to escape. There are also reports that two of the men attacked the police and tried to snatch weapons from them. The police fired at the men. There is no official word from the police. The four, arrested a day after the crime, had been in custody of the police since Wednesday.
According to police, the men were taken to the spot for recreation of the crime scene at 3:30 am when they attempted to flee and were shot by policemen. After the police confirmed the death of the four accused in the Disha rape-murder case in an encounter, locals gather in Hyderabad to shower petals on the police personnel in celebration.
Meanwhile, Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women, expresses her happiness over the police encounter that killed the four accused. She said, “As a common citizen I am feeling happy that this was the end we all wanted for them. But this end was supposed to be through the legal system. It should have happened through proper channels.
“We always demanded the death penalty for them, and here the police are the best judge, I don’t know in what circumstances this happened.” Activist Trupti Desai said that the killing of four men accused of raping and murdering the Hyderabad vet sets a “good example” in the society.
“Now rapists will think twice before committing a crime, they will now fear to get killed in a police encounter. Father of the 26-year-old woman veterinarian responded to the killings of the accused in a police encounter, expressing his gratitude towards the Telangana government. ” This is not justice…our daughter is lost to us forever. But, this is a relief, “Police had told us they will take immediate action. And they did.”
Reacting to the killings of the accused in the Hyderabad rape and murder case in a police encounter, BSP chief Mayawati said that she wishes the police had done a better job in the Nirbhaya case as well. “Rape cases are reported from across the country, especially from UP. I feel we should take strong action like this.
Here, we see that rape-accused are being treated as guests and not criminals. I hope the attitude changes for the better.
