Different stroke: No lesson learnt by UP leaders from Rahul’s mistake
Lucknow,June 21(HS)A Samajwadi Party delegation meets Uttar Pradesh governor to tell him that a “Jungle Raj” exists in the state. In the same week this month BSP supremo Mayawati claims that law and order has reached its nadir in BJP-ruled states.
Not to lag behind and to follow their foot -steps,an emerging Congress leader who has been a disaster in the state in  recent elections ,believes at the same time, that the BJP and the government led by it is ” blind” to realities.
This leader  holds the same view that the law and order situation is the worst and farmers and the poor are finding living tough in this most populous state.
A scrutiny of newspaper reports of past fifteen days, however, reveals that the situation is not as alarming as they want to project. There is  no need to paint the state black.
Of course, some ugly incidents like rape of three or four minor girls in the western part of the state, hooch tragedies in two districts and neglect of patients by some hospitals have taken place recently. These have given a bad name to this  “Uttam Pradesh”. But such incidents are not uncommon. All governments in the past have faced such situations.
But these worthies have ignored this hard fact as also the reaction of the government of the day.Superintendent of the hospital who behaved “callously” with the patient has been suspended.More heads are likely to roll in this connection.
Men behind spurious liquor deaths have been nabbed.Further investigation is on to go deep and find out all those who are linked to  the supply chain.
Action against some top district officials including  district magistrates who were not touched  even by a barge pole  in the past have been taken.Others have been warned against any laxity on their part in dealing with rape cases and other such heinous crimes.
It is not to suggest that during the present rule everything is hunky-dory in the state. It has also erred and taken some apparently wrong decisions. It has tried to administer overdose of Hindutva at times which is neither good nor desirable. But overall it has done well. Its intention has been good–good for the people in general and the state as a whole. It has genuinely tried to lift it industrially.
What has caused concern, apart from this,is that these leaders have not changed despite drubbing they got in recent elections for  spreading falsehood. Most of them, during the elections, made some false allegations against Prime minister Narendra Modi and called him “chor”.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi had cheer boys in  elections rallies who use to raised anti-Modi and Chowkidar Chor Hai slogans. It boomeranged .No body believed him and the result was that his party drew a blank in 14 states–almost half of the total in the country.
A question commonly asked in this light is:why do they still speak half truth or lies? One reason may be the impact it has made in the past.Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had spread a rumour before  Assembly elections in his state in 2015 that there would be no reservation for backward castes if BJP came to power.
He used to misquote  a statement of  RSS  chief Mohan Bhagwat in this regard. Most of the people in this backward caste-dominated state took this lie  as truth. The result was his party came back to power from exile for many years.
However,it had happened four years ago.Much water has flowed down the Ganga since then.More Facebook and Tweeter accounts have been opened.Such lies are countered almost immediately. It was one of the reasons why Rahul failed to make a dent in Modi’s image of an honest politician.
