Delhi’s air quality shows modest improvement, yet remains ‘Poor’
Delhi has faced hazardous air pollution levels for weeks, but on December 2, the city saw a slight improvement. The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded 274, still in the ‘poor’ category, according to SAFAR.
Favorable wind conditions helped disperse pollutants, offering some relief. However, data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that some areas still recorded AQI levels in the ‘very poor’ category.
In response, the Supreme Court lifted certain restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) stage IV. Schools can now operate in hybrid mode, and commercial vehicles can enter the city for essential goods.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) will enforce a mix of GRAP stages III and IV restrictions based on pollution severity. While Delhi’s pollution crisis remains unresolved, this slight improvement signals progress.
