Delhi Weather: Fog plays havoc in North India, visibility zero, 30 trains late, the flights also diverted
New Delhi, Dec 30 (HS): North India, including Delhi, is getting very cold. The mercury has been below five degrees for the past few days and now on Monday, the mercury has set a new record of decline. Visibility is completely zero in Delhi-NCR on the first day of the week, which has disturbed the normal life. The temperature of Delhi on Monday morning was 2.6 degrees, while the mercury in Palam was 2.9 degrees.
Even today the temperature in Delhi can remain below 5 degrees, mercury is expected to be very low not only in Delhi but also in other cities of North India. Apart from Delhi, the mercury remained below 3 degrees in cities like Amritsar, Agra and Jhansi.
Due to heavy fog, road traffic in North India including Delhi is affected. Three flights have been diverted at Delhi Airport, while all the passengers are being appealed to be in touch with their airline to know the status of the flight. SpiceJet, Indigo has appealed to keep the passengers in touch by tweeting.
Along with air traffic the effect of fog is also visible on the train. Northern Railway has said in a statement that more than 30 trains are running late due to fog on Monday morning.
In the cities of North India, people who are staying in the shelter are finding it difficult due to the harsh cold. Hundreds of people are spending the night with blankets at Delhi railway station. On Sunday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also distributed blankets at the shelter home in Kota, Rajasthan.
Cold wave continues in Rajasthan and its capital Jaipur has a minimum temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius, which is the second-lowest in 55 years. On December 13, 1964, Jaipur recorded the lowest temperature of 0 degrees Celsius.
For the last four days, the temperature in the state has been decreasing. Mount Abu was the coldest on Sunday, where the temperature was minus 3 degrees. At the same time, it was minus 1.6 degrees Celsius in Jobner.
Sikar and Fatehpur recorded 0 degree Celsius, while Kota recorded 2.8 degree, Churu 1.2 degree, Vanasthali 1.8 degree, Jaisalmer 3 degree and Bundi 2 degree.
In Greater Noida, adjacent to Delhi, a fierce road accident occurred due to fog last night in which 6 people died. Two minors are also among the dead. In fact, a Maruti Ertiga car with 11 people fell into a canal of Greater Noida in which all 11 people reportedly drowned.
