Delhi Polls: Rahul Gandhi hits the streets as Congress fights to reclaim ground
Rahul Gandhi will lead a series of walks across Delhi’s key constituencies after Republic Day to revive Congress’s fortunes. Drawing inspiration from his Bharat Jodo Yatra, these walks aim to challenge AAP’s decade-long dominance.
Focusing on grassroots connections, Gandhi will interact directly with voters in economically vulnerable areas and JJ clusters. Congress plans to spotlight AAP’s unfulfilled promises during these events. While addressing BJP’s influence remains a priority, the party sees targeting AAP as crucial to its revival.
Sources reveal that constituencies like New Delhi, where former MP Sandeep Dikshit contests against Arvind Kejriwal, and Badli, featuring Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, are key battlegrounds. Other areas under consideration include Kasturba Nagar and Kalkaji. These interactions will be widely shared on social media to amplify their impact.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may join her brother to strengthen the outreach. Senior leaders like Sachin Pilot and Haryana Congress figures will also campaign in constituencies near Haryana, including Mundka and northeast Delhi’s Muslim-majority areas.
Congress hopes to rebuild the stronghold it once held under Sheila Dikshit. AAP’s rise in 2013 left the party struggling in the Capital. Despite both parties being part of the INDIA bloc, Congress continues to critique AAP’s governance in Delhi.
Less than a week ago, Gandhi launched Congress’s campaign in Delhi. At the “Jai Bhim-Jai Samvidhan” public meeting in Seelampur, he criticized both Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal for failing to deliver on promises. “Kejriwal said he’d clean Delhi, turn it into Paris, and reduce corruption. Has any of that happened?” he asked. He accused both leaders of failing to address inflation and favoritism toward the wealthy.
On January 14, Gandhi posted a video questioning Kejriwal’s promises of making Delhi “as beautiful as Paris or London.” These efforts mark Congress’s aggressive push to reestablish itself in Delhi, combining rallies, walks, and targeted campaigns to engage voters and highlight AAP’s shortcomings.
With this no-holds-barred approach, Congress aims to reclaim lost ground and present itself as a strong alternative to both AAP and BJP in Delhi.
