The BJP government in Delhi approved the “Mahila Samriddhi Yojana” on Saturday, allocating ₹5,100 crore to provide ₹2,500 per month to eligible women. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the Cabinet meeting that finalized the decision.

“The promise of ₹2,500 to my sisters in Delhi has been approved today. This initiative ensures economic stability and social upliftment for women, especially those from poor families,” Gupta said. The BJP had pledged this financial aid in its ‘Sankalp Patra’ before the Delhi elections, surpassing AAP’s ₹2,100 offer.

BJP National President JP Nadda announced the scheme’s approval at a Mahila Diwas event hosted by the party’s Mahila Morcha at JLN Stadium. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in empowering women across various sectors.

This scheme played a crucial role in BJP’s victory in the February Delhi assembly polls, ending a 27-year losing streak and securing a two-thirds majority. It also helped shift the voter base previously dominated by AAP.

At the International Women’s Day event, Gupta announced a committee to oversee the scheme’s implementation. She will lead the committee along with cabinet ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Ashish Sood, and Kapil Mishra.

A registration portal will launch soon. The committee will finalize the eligibility criteria. “The IT department is developing the portal, and we will soon finalize all terms to enable registration,” Gupta told HT.

Though the official guidelines are pending, sources indicate that eligibility may include women aged 21-60 years with an annual income under ₹2.5 lakh. The scheme will exclude government employees and those receiving other government financial aid.

Women can apply online once the portal is live. The Delhi government will use advanced technology to ensure transparency and efficiency in financial disbursement. Aadhaar-based e-KYC will streamline enrollment, which is expected to start within two weeks.

This initiative marks a significant step toward financial empowerment for women in Delhi, reinforcing BJP’s commitment to social welfare and economic support for underprivileged families.
