Delhi freezes as Pusa records 3.2°C; cold wave to persist
Delhi experienced icy temperatures on Thursday, with Pusa and Ayangar recording lows of 3.2°C and 3.8°C, respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported cold wave conditions and predicted similar weather through the weekend.
Friday’s forecast for Delhi includes a minimum temperature of 4°C with cold wave conditions in isolated areas. Morning and evening smog or mist is likely, with a clear sky throughout the day. Maximum temperatures may reach 23°C.
Thursday marked Delhi’s coldest December day in three years. The minimum temperature dropped to 4.5°C, down from 4.9°C on Wednesday. The last time December temperatures were this low was in 2022 and 2023, with the lowest recorded being 4.9°C on December 15, 2023.
Across North India, IMD predicts a cold wave in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh until December 15, and in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan until December 13. Madhya Pradesh faces cold wave conditions until December 16, while Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal will experience it until December 14.
Dense fog is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, and northeastern states until December 17. Ground frost may occur in isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh on December 13.
The IMD forecasts no significant temperature change in Northwest and Central India over the next five days, though East India may see a 2-3°C drop in minimum temperatures. Western India could see a slight rise in temperatures.
