Delhi Election 2025: AAP gears up for fierce battle with BJP, Congress
Delhi’s political heat is rising as the capital prepares for Wednesday’s high-stakes assembly election. AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Atishi, and the Election Commission wrapped up a key meeting late Tuesday. Meanwhile, AAP and BJP traded sharp barbs, intensifying the battle before polling day.
AAP, led by Kejriwal, seeks a third consecutive term, banking on governance and welfare schemes. BJP, out of power for 25 years, aims for a comeback. Congress, once dominant under Sheila Dikshit, hopes to break its losing streak after two zero-seat performances.
Polling will take place in a single phase on February 5, from 7 am to 6 pm. Votes will be counted on February 8. Across 70 constituencies, 13,766 polling stations will host 699 candidates.
The Election Commission has banned exit polls from 7 am to 6:30 pm on polling day. More than 30,000 police officers and 220 paramilitary companies will oversee security. Officials have classified nearly 3,000 polling booths as sensitive, prompting extra security, including drone surveillance.
To ease voting, the Election Commission launched a Queue Management System (QMS) app. Voters can check crowd levels in real-time. Special provisions exist for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
AAP faces one of its toughest electoral fights. The arrests of key leaders, including Kejriwal, have put pressure on the party. Meanwhile, BJP and Congress sense an opportunity to gain ground.
AAP has deployed volunteers to inspect polling booths, verify presiding officer details, and monitor Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). These volunteers will also track the battery life of EVMs after polling ends.
Kejriwal seeks re-election from New Delhi, facing BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. Atishi, contesting in Kalkaji, battles Congress leader Alka Lamba and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.
AAP’s Manish Sisodia takes on BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress’s Farhad Suri in Jangpura. Senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain competes in Shakur Basti against BJP’s Karnail Singh.
Awadh Ojha, a teacher-turned-politician, represents AAP in a fight against BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi and Congress’s Anil Chaudhary. In Malviya Nagar, AAP’s Somnath Bharti faces BJP’s Satish Upadhyay and Congress’s Jitendra Kumar Kochar.
On election eve, AAP and BJP leaders sought divine blessings for success. With Delhi’s fate at stake, the battle lines are drawn. Voters now hold the key to the capital’s future.
