Srinagar JAN 03 (HS): Development Commissioner of Shopian Choudhary Mohammad Yasin inspected Girls Child care Home and Centre for Girl Education and Empowerment here at Shopian today.
District Child Protection Officer Mohammad Shafait, CEO Mushtaq Ahmad, Principal GHSS Shopian Abdul Hamid, Incharge Centre for Girl Education and Empowerment Bilal Malik and officials of Girls Childcare Home accompanied the DDC during the inspection.
Incharge of the Cente for Girls Education and Empowerment intimated that the center was established under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme to promote and facilitate the education of girl students. The center has around 1500 books for NEET, JEE, other competitive and banking exams.
DDC directed the concerned officials to make the center functional round the clock for students taking free coaching classes for NEET & JEE examinations besides ensuring proper heating facilities for students. It was decided that more books & study material and furniture would be provided in the center under the BBBP scheme.
DCPO apprised that despite the recruitment of staff for Girls Childcare Home in 2018 and handing over of suitable building by district administration around one and half years back, the home couldn’t be made functional for want of dietary and few non-dietary items. He further informed that there was the liability of Rs. 10 Lakh on account of repair and renovation of homebuilding. It was also given out that 25 girl students who are in need of care and protection have been identified for enrolment in the home.
Taking serious note of non-operationalization of girl childcare home despite lapse of considerable time, the DCPO was directed to take up the matter with higher authorities for providing dietary/non-dietary items required for making the home functional so as to provide respite to identified girls in need of care and protection.
