Ranchi ,13 April:(HS)Department of Environmental Sciences at Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, Jharkhand has received the prestigious DST Fund for improvement of Science & Technology Infrastructure in Universities & higher educational institutions (FIST) at Level-I in the discipline ‘Earth & Atmospheric Sciences’ under FIST 2019 Program of R&D (Infrastructure Division) of Department of Science & Technology under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

The total grant accorded to the department is Rs 88 Lakh for five years. Out of this fund, Rs 75 lakh has been accorded for procurement of equipment, Rs 10 lakh for Networking, and Rs 80 Lakh for Maintenance. In the letter received dated March 25, DST has released the First instalment of the financial assistance of Rs 70 Lakh.
The Central University of Jharkhand was established through the Central University Act, 2009. The Department of Environmental Sciences came into existence in the University in the year 2012 and has been performing extremely well in terms of teaching and research. The department is currently headed by Professor Manoj Kumar who is also the Dean of School of Natural Resource Management, Professor-in-Charge (Academics) & Director, IQAC, Incharge, Admission Cell. Other faculties in the department are Bhaskar Singh,  Purabi Saikia, Kuldeep Bauddh and Nirmali Bordoloi.
The faculties have a vast experience and expertise in various subjects of Environmental Sciences. They have authored publications in the most reputed journals from national and international publishers including the prestigious journal ‘Nature’ bearing high citations and ‘h-index’.
