Crying foul, Jamiat knocks SC against bulldozer action
New Delhi, April 18 (H.S.)| Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind has approached the Supreme Court against the ‘bulldozer action’ in several states of the country where State governments are reportedly demolishing illegal properties of those involved in rioting against religious processions.
Petition has demanded to instruct all the states to stop the action being taken in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and described it as illegal.
Petition said, state governments are taking preventive action against the accused without following any legal process. There is no provision in the criminal law for the imposition of such punishment, doing so, is a violation of law.
Several MLAs and ministers, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Home Minister, made criminal accountability statements against the accused threatening the minority community to demolish their houses, the petition said. It has sought a ban on making public statements accusing the criminals holding them accountable for the crimes even before they are declared criminal by the court.
