Cricket Association of Bengal donates for fight against COVID-19

Kolkata,27 March(HS): Expressing solidarity with all-out government efforts to effectively fight against the deadly COVID-19 and joining thousands of others across the country, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) today donated Rs 2.5 million to the West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund.
Informing this CAB President Abvishek Dalmia told Hindusthan Samachar here today that apart from personally donating Rs 5 lakhs into the Fund to help the state authorities deal with the present crisis more effectively, he had urged all other office bearers of the state’s highest cricket body to come out with similar gestures.
‘Responding to my appeal and realising the gravity of the situation several other senior members of CAB donated a considerable amount to the Emergency fund’, he said and thanked CAB Secretary and former cricketer Snehashis Ganguly, the elder brother of BCCI President Saurav Ganguly, Assistant Secretary Naresh Ojha and Joint Secretary Debabrata Das for donating sums of over Rs one lakh each.
‘Though It is the government’s responsibility to take immediate measures to isolate towns and cities, districts and divisions where the virus is spreading – including lockdowns wherever necessary. It is also a must to provide testing kits, masks and other equipment to hospitals’, Avishek Dalmia said adding ‘The effect of these radical steps will hurt daily wage earners, the poor and the marginalised most. At this juncture, it is our responsibility and for the people at large to come out in their support in a big way ‘.
