Covid 19 death toll in Bengal increases to 79 with 92 more infections

Kolkata,08 May(HS): As 7 more Covid-19 patients died in West Bengal during the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths has risen to 79 today from 72 till yesterday morning.
In addition, another 72 people had also lost their lives in the state till now because of various other comorbidities, taking the overall death toll to 151(79 plus 72), the latest medical bulletin issued by the West Bengal Health Department here said.
During the same period, the total number of those affected has also gone up to 1,548 from 1,445 with another 92 people getting affected and admitted to different hospitals. However, the total number of active Corona patient had also increased to 1,101 during the last 24 hours.
Since yesterday 31 Corona positive patients were also released from different hospitals and returned home, the Medical bulleting said adding with them so far a total of 296 people have returned home after fully recovering from the disease.
Moreover, after ramping up the testing efforts of suspected and asymptomatic patients, as many as 2,611 sample testing was conducted since yesterday taking their total number to 32,752 so far.
The number of people now being treated at various  Government Quarantine facilities was 4,757, the bulleting said adding another 9,618 suspected patients were sent to home Quarantine.
Among the 7 deceased since yesterday, as many as 5 were from in and around Kolkata alone, while the other two patients died in a Covid-19 hospital in North 24 Parganas, the Bulletin said.
However, in terms of those affected the highest number of people got affected and tested positive in Howrah district followed by those in Kolkata and other districts.
While altogether 35 people had been affected in Howrah in one day, 29 others tested positive in Kolkata followed by  18 in North 24 Parganas, 3 in Birbhum, two in South 24 Parganas and one in Malda district during the last 24 hours.
Referring to the increased containment zones in the state in the wake of further spread of the disease in new areas, the bulletin said since yesterday the number of Containment zone in West Bengal was increased from 561 to 578 with a majority of them being situated in Howarah and North 24 Parganas district.The total Containment zone in Kolkata however, remained at 368.
Expressing concern at the growing number of Corona positive patients among the frontline workers including those from the Police Force besides the doctors and nurses, the Bulletin said in a sudden surge as many as 5 police personnel tested positive since yesterday and three police stations had to be sanitized for the spread of the disease among the force posted there.
 About the industrial scenario of the state which has been facing huge problems because of the current lockdown condition,the bulletin said applications for the resumption of partial business activities had come from 12,896 industrial units so far and the government had granted permissions to 6,232 units with another about 700 cases pending till today.
