Kolkata,06 May(HS): Categorically denying the claim of the Union Health Ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) that the ratio of COVID-19 deaths among per million of the population is the highest in West Bengal among all states, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that on the contrary it was one of the lowest and far below than several other most affected states.
Armed with the latest comparative figures vis a vis with several other states, the Chief Minister has claimed that while the rate of COVID19 death per million people in West Bengal currently stood at only 126, it was far below than many other states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh among others where the similar figure stood at  2,449, 1,212,893,444,383 and 359 respectively.
Criticizing the opposition BJP for allegedly trying to misinform the people, the Chief Minister once again claimed that  West Bengal was among the states having lowest cases of Coronavirus death, and said that a number of BJP ruled states like Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh was among the worst affected.
The government of West Bengal was leaving no stone unturned to provide the best treatment to its people in its fight against the present pandemic and ‘we are certain to win the battle with huge success in no time’, she said.
Citing a number of other examples showing the picture of the all-out fight against the Covid -19 pandemic in the state, the Chief Minister stated that realising the gravity of the situation her government had so far deployed more than 60,000 Asha workers to visit every household in all affected zones to inquire whether any more people are affected by the disease and had been conducting the preliminary tests.
So far they had covered more than 5.8 crores houses, she claimed and added that following such house to house inquiry it was found that nearly 900 people had developed the early symptoms of Coronavirus while another 91,549 people showed signs of influenza-like seasonal disease. Proper care had since been taken for all of them, the Chief Minister said through a message through her Facebook book today.
Reiterating that only 68 people had so far lost their lives directly because of Coronavirus and about  1,344 others were affected in the state, the Chief Minister once again strongly contradicted the figures issued by ICMR and said all previous confusion in this regard had now been wiped out.
