Corruption reduces in many states in Modi Government! Bribery reduces by 10 percent in one year: Survey

New Delhi , Nov 27 (HS): In the last one year, corruption has decreased in many states of the country. With this, there has been a 10 percent decrease in bribery cases in the country in a year. It has been claimed in a survey conducted in 20 states of the country.

In the survey, people of Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala, Goa, Odisha believed that they had reduced corruption cases. On the other hand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Punjab have reported more cases of corruption. The survey was conducted by Transparency International India (TII) and Local Circles. In ‘India Corruption Survey 2019’, 1,90,000 people from 248 districts were interviewed. 51 percent of the people surveyed admitted that they had given a bribe in 12 months.

India’s ranking has improved in the Corruption Perception Index 2018 released by TII. India has been ranked 78 in the list of 180 countries, thus improving its ranking by 3 places compared to last year. According to the survey, giving or taking cash is still the most preferred form of bribe.

35 percent of the people surveyed said that in the last 12 months, they had to give cash in the form of bribe to get their work done. Apart from this, 16 percent of people have said that their work is done without a bribe. According to the survey, the most bribery is in property registration and land-related departments, police, and municipal corporations.

According to the survey, bribery has become a bit difficult due to the installation of CCTV cameras and computerization in government departments, but this is still going on and the brokers are still flourishing. Maximum 26 percent of the people involved in the survey said that bribery is the highest in property registration and land-related departments.

Only 12 per cent believe that bribery has come down in the last one year in property registration and land-related departments. 49 percent of the people involved in the survey said that bribery continues as before and 8 percent of people believe that it has decreased. 9 percent of the people believe that they have never needed to bribe.7 percent believe that corruption in tax related departments has come down. Significantly, in the last 6 months, the government has sacked 25 senior officials of the Income Tax Department.
