Cops tightening noose around former MP Atiq Ahmed
PRAYAGRAJ, April 9 (HS): After ensuring the arrival of MLA Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh police is tightening noose around former MP, Atiq Ahmed who is currently languishing in Sabarmati jail of Ahmedabad. Outbursts by UP minister, after the arrival of Ansari that Atiq Ahmed is next on their radar, dropped enough hints over the actions of UP police. On Thursday, police filed a chargesheet against Atiq Ahmed’s brother in law Imran in Deoria jail case.
Mohd. Zaid, son in law of a close aide, Abid Prashan was abducted from his residence under Dhoomanganj police station in 2018 by Imran and brought to Deoria jail, where Atiq was imprisoned. He was allegedly beaten by the goons of Atiq Ahmed inside Deoria jail over a property issue. Mohd. Zaid filed a complaint in this regard in 2020, after which accused were subsequently chargesheeted.
Earlier, on Tuesday Dhoomanganj police of Prayagraj filed a chargesheet against former MLA Khalid Azim Ashraf who is currently languishing in Barreily jail since last nine months. The murder was held way back in 2016, when a son and her mother identified as Surajkali were shot dead in broad day light in Jhalwa locality under Dhoomanganj police station. However, after the change of guard in the state, the Dhoomanganj police reopened the case in 2017 and made Atiq’s younger brother and former MLA also as an accused in the case. Last week, Dhoomanganj police went to Barreily jail and recorded the statement of former MLA. Atiq Ahmed is in Sabarmati jail of Ahmedabad.
