Common people donates to fight COVID-19 unitedly

Kalyani(Nadia)/Kolkata,03 April(HS): The residents of this small satellite industrial township near Indo Bangladesh border in South Bengal today set an example to all others in rest of West Bengal and elsewhere in the country by donating Rs two lakhs to the Chief minister’s Emergency Relief Fund besides arranging food for the poor to help fight the danger of COVID-19 with limited resources.
Realising the gravity of the present emergency situation and the need to stand by the poor and needy in the midst of a 21 day long Locked down period, a large number of common people including the government employees, small businessmen, teachers, students and even doctors in this small township decided to pool some funds and donate the same to the Chief minister’s Relief Fund as their contribution to fight the deadly disease and help the poor and the needy.
Accordingly, a local club and its members came forward to organise the collection of funds and some other daily commodities and within the next 24 hours. They collected Rs two lakhs in cash besides the huge amount of daily commodities including rice, pulses, sugar, cooking oils onions, potatoes and some vegetables for the poor through united and spontaneous efforts by one and all.
While the money was handed to the local BDO today, the daily ration was distributed by the club members themselves in presence of senior government officials in a coordinated manner.
‘We have also decided to arrange some for money by drastically reducing our annual budget for the this year’s all Durga Puja and Kali Puja celebrations in the town’, said  Pankaj Banerjee, the President of one of the largest puja organising club Labony.
‘The efforts of the common people to stand by the poor and the needy at the time of emergency situation like this has set a noble example for all other people and similar organisations across the country’, said BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and several other leaders.
