CM Stalin Declares School Holiday in Chennai Due to Rain
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu on Tuesday due to an alert for heavy rains. The decision followed a monsoon preparedness meeting chaired by Stalin on Monday at the Secretariat. He also urged IT companies in these areas to implement work-from-home arrangements on October 15 and 16.
To prepare for the potential flooding, Stalin ordered the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to deploy teams and equipment in flood-prone regions. Additionally, he directed officials to position boats in these areas ahead of the rainfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for Chennai and nearby districts for October 15 and 16. Other parts of Tamil Nadu received orange and yellow alerts. Light to moderate rain is expected across the rest of the state.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin reviewed the city’s monsoon readiness by visiting the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) in Ripon Building, Chennai. District officials have been instructed to coordinate flood relief efforts with their local administrations.
These measures reflect the government’s proactive approach to ensure safety and minimize disruptions during the heavy rains.
