On Wednesday, the state government deposited ₹5,000 into the bank accounts of about 35 lakh women. This marks the second phase of the first installment for the ambitious Subhadra Yojana aimed at empowering women.

During a lively event at Chhau Ground in Baripada, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi distributed the funds. Notably, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and other dignitaries attended the ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to this initiative.

This scheme stems from a promise made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its Sankalp Patra (election manifesto). In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the Subhadra Yojana on his birthday, September 17, this year. On that day, approximately 2.5 million women received the first installment of ₹5,000.

Moreover, the Subhadra scheme aims to provide each beneficiary with a total of ₹10,000 annually, delivered in two ₹5,000 installments. The first payment occurs on Rakhi Purnima, while the second is scheduled for International Women’s Day on March 8. This support will continue for five years, significantly impacting the lives of many women.

Furthermore, this second phase particularly benefits women who were excluded from the initial disbursement. They submitted applications by October 7, ensuring their eligibility for these funds. As a result, this initiative not only fulfills a campaign promise but also reinforces the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment in the state. Through this financial assistance, the government aims to uplift countless families and foster greater economic independence for women.
