The Delhi Police detained a Class 12 student for sending bomb threat emails to multiple schools in the past few days. The student sent the last 23 threats, leading to widespread panic. During interrogation, the boy admitted to sending similar emails earlier.
Reports indicate that the student used this tactic to avoid taking exams. His goal was to trigger enough panic to get the exams canceled. The latest threats targeted around 10 educational institutes on Thursday. One of the affected schools, Venkateshwar Global School, received a threat just a day after a mysterious explosion at the Rohini PVR multiplex on November 28.
Earlier, two students at Venkateshwar Global School had sent a bomb threat email, hoping to delay exams. Police later revealed that they had copied this idea from previous bomb threat incidents. After a thorough check of the school, the police declared the threat a hoax.
In other cases, students from schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar sent similar threatening emails, again hoping to disrupt school operations. These students were counseled and released after their parents were warned.
The surge in bomb threats has caused chaos in over 100 Delhi schools over the past month. Police investigations have found that the threats were sent using VPNs, making it difficult to trace the perpetrators. Since May, more than 50 bomb threat emails have targeted not only schools but also hospitals, airports, and airlines in Delhi. Despite numerous cases, police have yet to make any breakthroughs.
