China and India have strengthened ties after last year’s breakthrough in eastern Ladakh. On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised the positive progress, crediting the Modi-Xi meeting in Kazan, Russia, for guiding both nations toward stability.

Wang highlighted that both sides implemented their leaders’ consensus, deepened exchanges, and achieved key agreements. He noted that India and China completed troop disengagement at Depsang and Demchok, ending over four years of border tensions.

Emphasizing peace at the borders, Wang stated that boundary issues should not define bilateral relations. He stressed that both ancient civilizations have the wisdom to maintain stability while seeking a fair solution.

China, he said, views India as a partner rather than a rival. He called for mutual support instead of suspicion, urging both nations to cooperate for shared success. Wang asserted that collaboration between the “dragon and elephant” is the best path forward.

Referring to global politics, Wang said China and India should resist hegemonism and power politics. He emphasized their role in shaping a stronger Global South and pushing for greater democracy in international affairs.

As the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic ties approaches in 2025, Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing stable and constructive relations.

The Modi-Xi meeting in Kazan on October 23 laid the foundation for renewed diplomatic engagement. Following the agreement, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Wang held talks in Beijing in December. In January, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met his Chinese counterpart Sun Weidong to strengthen cooperation further.

Both nations now aim to build on these diplomatic efforts and maintain forward momentum in their relationship.
