Chhattisgarh: SP leader sickled to death by Naxalites
Bijapur, Jun. 19 (HS): Samajwadi Party leader was killed in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur. Maoists also fired vehicles on the spot, a Bolero car and three trucks have been set on fire. The Maoists refused to give the body of SP leader named Santosh Poonam to his family members. The police has not reached the spot. There is panic in the locality.
Bijapur district police officials said here on Wednesday that the Maoists had killed Santosh Punam, a leader of Samajwadi Party, near the village of Mirimalla under the Ilmidi police station area. On Tuesday evening, the Maoists had kidnapped Punam.
According to DIG (Anti Naxal Operation), Sudhir P said, “Santosh Poonam was a resident of Marimalla and he used to work as a contractor. He was abducted on Tuesday evening from a construction site. ‘ Incident occurred in deep forests 15 kms away from the police station. We have sent a police team to the scene. After the police arrives, we will share the full details of the incident.
