Chhattisgarh encounter: 5 naxalites killed, weapons recovered
Security forces killed five Naxalites on Saturday during an encounter near the Maharashtra border in Chhattisgarh’s North Abujhmad. The joint team of DRG, STF, and BSF recovered the bodies and a large cache of weapons. Soldiers claim that several other Naxalites were injured in the clash.
The operation began after intelligence reports confirmed the presence of Naxalite leader Abhay and his group near the Kanker and Narayanpur districts. When forces reached the hideout in the Abujhmad forest, the Naxalites opened fire, prompting a fierce gunfight. C-60 commandos were deployed in the Gadchiroli area to prevent their escape toward Maharashtra.
The encounter started at 8 am and lasted for four hours. Bastar IG Suddaraj P confirmed the operation’s success, stating the identities of the slain Naxalites are yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, two injured soldiers, constable Hiraman Yadav (23) and head constable Khileshwar Gawade (35), were shifted to Narayana Hospital in Raipur. Their condition is stable, and arrangements have been made for further treatment.
The search operation continues as forces tighten security in the region to prevent Naxal movement.
