Chennai – Kevadiya spl train service to start from 20 January
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, January 18 (HS)Dr MGR Chennai Central railway station turned center of attraction as the special train connecting Chennai with Kevadiya was given a grand flagoff yesterday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off this train yesterday through video conferencing along with seven other trains which will also connect Kevadiya with other parts of the country.
The inaugural ceremony at Chennai Central witnessed presence of Tamil Nadu Fisheries and Administrative Reforms Minister D. Jayakumar.
Kevadiya is home to the well-known Statue of Unity. Prime Minister Modi said perhaps, for the first time in the history of Railways, trains have been flagged off for the same destinations from different corners of the country.
He explained that this is because of the importance of Kevadiya as home to Statue of Unity and Sardar Sarovar.
This event exemplifies the vision of railways and mission of Sardar Patel.
One of the Kevadiya bound train is originating from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station, said Prime Minister paying tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr MGR on his birth anniversary.
Modi praised his accomplishments on film screen and political platform.
He noted that MGR’s political journey was dedicated to poor and he worked tirelessly for a dignified life of the down-trodden.
The Prime Minister said that we are working to fulfill his ideals and recalled how the grateful nation renamed Chennai Central Railway station after MGR.
The Prime Minister, pointed out the new connectivity between Kevadiya and Chennai, Varanasi, Rewa, Dadar and Delhi along with MEMU service between Kevadiya and Pratapnagar and broad gauging of Dabhoi-Chandod and new line between Chandod- Kevadiya will a new chapter in the development of Kevadiya.
This will benefit both the tourists and local adivasis as this will bring new avenues of self-employment and employment.
The railway line will provide connection to the places of faith like Karnali, Poicha and Garudeshwar on Narmada, said Prime Minister.
The train connecting Chennai with Kevaidya began its inaugural run after Prime Minister flagged it off.
The composition of the train during the inaugural run was One-AC 2 Tier, Four- AC 3 Tier Coaches, Seven- Sleeper Class Coaches, Four- General Second Class Coaches, One- Luggage Cum Brake Van and One-Generator cum Power Car.
Train No.09119 Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Kevadiya Weekly Superfast Special Train was flagged off during the event and is expected to reach Kevadiya by 6 pm today.
The stoppages for the train were Renigunta, Cudappah, Guntakal, Raichur, Solapur, Pune, Kalyan, Vasai Road, Surat and Vadodara.
The regular service of the train will have a composition of One- AC 2 Tier, Four- AC 3 Tier Coaches, Seven- Sleeper Class Coaches, Four- General Second Class Coaches, One- Luggage Cum Brake Van and One- Generator cum Power Car .
The regular Train No. 09120 Kevadiya – Dr. MGR Chennai Central Weekly Superfast Special Train will leave Kevadiya at 9.15 am on Wednesdays with effect from 20 January and reach Dr. MGR Chennai Central at 4.00 pm on Thursdays until further advice.
