By-elections to a Rajya Sabha seat in West Bengal on August 9

New Delhi, 16 July (H.S): A by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat in West Bengal will be held on August 9. The seat fell vacant after the resignation of Dinesh Trivedi.

Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi had resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership on February 12, after that he joined BJP. His term was till April 2026.

According to the Election Commission, the notification related to the by-election will be issued on July 22. After this, voting will be held on 9 August. Results will also come on the same day. Special emphasis will be given to follow guidelines issued in view of pandemic Covid-19.
