BSF Guwahati Frontier celebrated International Day Against Drugs

Guwahati, Jun 26 (HS): Troops of Border Security Force under Guwahati Frontier celebrated “International Day Against Drugs Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” on 26 June 2019, at its field formations and HQrs of Dhubri, Cooch Behar and Falakata with enthusiasm. The theme of this Trafficking is ‘Health for Justice, Justice for Health’-underlining the importance of a holistic approach involving health, human rights, criminal justice and social service institutions.”

On this occasion, in two different events 150 BSF personnel participated in combined International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organized at Sankardev International Auditorium near Kalashetra, Panjabari, Guwahati today, 50 BSF personnel participated in a Foot Rally was started from Six Mile to Sankardev International Auditorium near Kalashetra, Panjabari, Guwahati from 0630 hrs to  0730 hrs and another combined event which was inaugurated by Sarbanda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam in the presence of other senior officials at about 1600 hrs.

The BSF has always been aware of its social responsibilities and has played an active role in contributing to the national causes. Understanding the common concern that drug abuse is under cutting traditional values and threatening the existence of families and communities, BSF Guwahati Frontier observed this day to educate border populace about the ill-effects of this menace and spread awareness amongst them to maintain distance from this labyrinth. The day as an event is celebrated worldwide with much conscious fervor to make people aware and emphasize the hazards of drug addiction and illegal trafficking. A problem which is a major deterrent to humanity and a poison to the well-being of the youth in particular poses greater problems to the socio-economic and political stability of a nation as also disturbing the sustainable development of a nation.

On this occasion, ‘Foot Rally’, Cycle rally,lecture on menace ofdrug and Street Interactionprogrammewere organized by the field formation of BSF to spread awareness and educate border populace and border men about menace of Drug and its pernicious effects on family, society and nation as a whole, particularly among youth.

Teenagers and young adults are primarily most vulnerable of using illicit drugs. The prevalence of drug use among young people is more than twice in comparison to general population as at this age, peer pressure to experiment with illicit drugs is strong. Also, those who take drugs tend to be not aware of the health risks involved.

The border populace appreciated novel ideas of BSF to create awareness on this detrimental issue of society and country.
