Brasilia/New Delhi, Nov.03 (HS): Brazilian police have arrested a Bangladesh born human trafficker Saifullah Al-Mamun in Sao Paulo who is considered to be among the top human traffickers of the world.
Saifullah was allegedly involved in smuggling people from Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan into Brazil and then to the United States.
According to Reuters, Brazilian police working in collaboration with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a group of human traffickers from Sao Paulo and three other Brazilian cities on Thursday.
The United States Department of Justice said the group housed the migrants in Sao Paulo. A large network of human traffickers working in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico arranged for their onward travel to the US.
Al-Mamun had entered Brazil six years ago as a refugee. He was living in an immigrant dominated locality of Sao Paulo. The Bangladesh police said that they are not aware of the activities of Al Mamun.
