“Brace for Impact: IMD forecasts heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next two days. A cyclonic circulation, moving towards the state on December 24, is expected to bring isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms to Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.
Since Monday morning, districts like Thoothukudi, Ettayapuram, Kamanayakkanpatti, and Nalatinputhur have already seen widespread rainfall. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicts more light to moderate rain across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from December 26 to 28.
Weather experts attribute this sudden shift to a cyclonic circulation extending up to 3.1 km above sea level. The system is moving west-southwestward toward the Bay of Bengal, intensifying rain activity.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert. While the rain brings some relief to water-scarce regions, it poses risks like flooding and disruptions.
