Boiler explodes at IFFCO’s Phulpur fertilizer unit, one dead

PRAYAGRAJ, March 23 (HS): A person has died and around a dozen workers sustained injuries when a boiler exploded at IFFCO’s Phulpur fertilizer unit here on Tuesday. The accident occurred around 1.15 pm, revealed IFFCO Phulpur Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sanjay Mishra while speaking to HS. The cause of this accident is being investigated, he added.

“One of the steam boilers of the plant has exploded leading to the death of a daily wager, who has been identified as Pradeep. Around a dozen labourers have been referred to Swaroop Rani Hospital (SRH) of Motilal Nehru medical college, Allahabad out of which the condition of two is serious. Along with this, around half a dozen other persons are being treated at the health centre of the plant, located within the premises of IFFCO, Ghiyanagar, Phulpur.

Kin of labourers fear that the death toll is likely to rise as the condition of a few of the labourers is serious. This is the second incident within the last three months at IFFCO as it was on December 23 when there was a leakage in the ammonia gas due of which two officials had died while around a dozen were injured.
