Kolkata,15 May(HS): In a shocking complaint against the West Bengal police, BJP MP from Barrackpore Arjun Singh today alleged that a plot was hatched to assassinate him and his family by the police yesterday, and sought immediate intervention of Governor Jagdeep Dhankar by ordering an inquiry into the incident.
Lodging his complaint in detail and seeking the intervention of the constitutional head of the state, the BJP MP who joined the party about two years ago and won from Barrackpore Parliamentary seat last year, in a three-page letter alleged that yesterday the Joint Commissioner of Police attempted to assassinate him and his family ‘on the pretext of cross-firing’.
He said at around 7-30  p.m. he arrived with 35 of his associates and began roaming in and around Singh’s office in a suspicious manner, When intercepted by the MPs Security Officer in Charge the police officer stated that he had come to serve notices to two local individuals as witnesses in a criminal case. But when the MP demanded the notice,  the police was not able to show him the same instantly.
Rubbishing the claim of the police that they had come to serve notices to two persons including a woman, Singh further stated in his letter quoting his own reliable sources that  the police officer ‘had planned to start an argument in any pretext’ with his security personnel and ‘then assassinate me and my family in a crossfire’.
Further alleging that at least two of the 35 associates of the police officer were known miscreants in the area, Singh said they even pointed their guns against him but somehow did not open fire.
Some others even tried to enter my house from the backyards ‘in order to kill me and my family’, he stated further.
Singh also described such acts as a political vendetta against him since as many as 75 false and fabricated cases were also filed against him to defame his public image.
Under the circumstances, the BJP  MP requested the Governor as the(Constitutional) head of the state to direct the state government to initiate a departmental inquiry in accordance with law against the Police officer and his associates who were ‘part of a state-sponsored conspiracy’.
Though no immediate reaction from either the Governor or the state government or the city police was available, now it remains to be seen what future lies ahead of such a humongous compliant.
