BJP donates Rs 20.5 crores in Bengal to fight COVID-19
Kolkata,30 March(HS): Responding to the appeal of Prime minister Narendra Modi, the West Bengal state unit of BJP today donated Rs 20.5 crores to the National Emergency Fund to help fight the deadly Coronavirus in a more sustained manner.
Informing this party sources told Hindusthan Samachar here today that apart from donating considerable amount from their local Development funds, all state BJP MPs, MLAs and office-bearers of the party donated their one day salary to the Emergency Fund to help fight COVID -19.
Among those BJP Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal Rupa Ganguly has donated a whopping Rs 8 crores, she was followed by BJP MP from Burdwan West Surinder Singh Ahluwalia who gave Rs 1.5 crore.
While state BJP President Dilip Ghosh and MP from Midnapore, Locket Chatterjee an MP from Hooghly, Subhas Sarkar, MP from Bankura, Arjun Singh MP from Barrackpore and Shantanu Thakur MP from Bongaon donated Rs one crore each for the same purpose.
Among others, Soumitra Khan(Bishnupur MP) donated Rs 80 lakhs and his party MP from Purulia Jyotirmoy Mahato along with Nisith Pramanik (Coochbehar), Raju Bist (Darjeeling), John Barla (Alipurduar) and Kunal Hembram (Midnapore) had given Rs 50 lakhs each.
In addition Sukata Majumdar, the BJP MP from Balurghat also donated Rs 30 lakhs so far, the sources informed.
Among the ruling party MPs, Avishek Banerjee (Diamond Harbour MP) has donated Rs one crore while several of his party colleagues had given away Rs 50 lakhs each or more.
The leader of Left Front Legislature party in West Bengal Assembly and senior CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty also pledged to donate Rs ten lakhs each from the Developmental funds of each Left Front MLAs for setting up of essential services in their respective district hospitals in the state to fight the spread of the COVID-19 in rural Bengal
