BJP, CPI-M criticise decision to remove Health Secretary
Kolkata,12 May(HS): Both the opposition BJP and Cpi-m here today expressed their strong reservations about the West Bengal government’s decision to summarily remove state Health and Family Welfare Secretary Vivek Kumar today and shunting him to a much less important Environment department.
Alleging that the state government had made Vikek Kumar as the scapegoat to cover up is abject failure to handle the Covid 19 situation all over the state, state BJP President Dilip Ghosh and senior CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty said it was very unfortunate that a senior officer of known integrity had to face the brunt of the government failure and take the entire responsibility of the failure of the state government on his shoulder.
Referring to the earlier decision of the Mamata Banerjee government to remove the state food and Civil Supply Secretary to cover up in a similar way the unprecedented failure of the rationing system for the poor and the needy, they said.
‘We strongly protest all such measures as stop-gap measures and demand a disciplinary action to streamline the united fight, and once again criticised the government decision to summarily remove the state Health secretary for no apparent fault of his own and in a similar fashion.
It is very unfortunate that the Secretary who till very recently was very close to the government had suddenly lost all confidence and fell from the grace, they said and questioned the role of two Health ministers including the Chief Minister who is also the Health Minister at the present hours of crisis.
