BHU has set a “dangerous” trend
Lucknow, December 11(HS) The Banaras Hindu University, many people here believe, has set a dangerous trend. It has “accepted” demand of a handful of boys who are the worst examples of student activism.
The authorities should have dealt with them firmly. Now,after achieving victory, they may make some other absurd demands.Students in other universities may follow them and vitiate the atmosphere.
”Serious students who have studying and passing exams as the only agenda feel let down by the authorities.
It was wrong on their part not to listen to others and ignore majoritarian view”,believed a teacher who would not like to be named.
“Instead of seeking police help or the help of district administration , University authorities have bowed down to pressure”, burst out another.
Their assessment is based on certain known facts. Many a time they had declareId that appointment of Feroze Khan as a teacher in the Sankrit Vidya Dharma Vijanan or SVDV was in accordance with the rules .Also that no wrong was committed in this case.
The question which arises in that light is: why was he not allowed to teach in the same department? Why was a change made then? He has joined another department in the same institution.
A teacher has been quoted as saying that he has resigned on his own and joined another faculty. This theory has many holes.
First,he was teaching in Rajasthan and had applied for a job in the University some time back.He was appointed to teach in SVDV faculty on November 5 last.He had accepted the offer.
Second, two days later a group of students came out in protest. They held a dharna for ten days and did some thing else to obstruct normal functioning.
Third,he was not allowed to teach for almost a month. Fourth, whatever he has done he has done after a long agitation against his appointment in the department.
It appears in this light that his resignation had a lot to do with students agitations which had been condemned by many other students and institutions.
The majority view is that religion should not have anything to do with education. It is also worth mentioning here that in no other institution this kind of situation has been witnessed.
If a Muslim has learnt Sanskrit and wants to teach the language anywhere it is laudable.Similarly, if a Hindu has learnt Urdu in addition to Hindi, it is praiseworthy. Most importantly, a group of students should not decide which teacher should do what and where. It is a wrong precedent which has been created.
