Bengal Governor express concerns for keeping him in dark
Kolkata,14 April(HS): In an unprecedented series of twitter messages during the past couple of days, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has expressed strong reservations about the alleged attitudes of the state government towards him and to his office at the present critical juncture and wrote that the ‘Lockdown with Governor is unconstitutional and anti democratic’.
In a series of messages through his official Twitter handle since 12 April, the Governor has questioned the reasons behind the state government’s alleged decision to keep him in dark and not involve him or his office in terms of any decision of the state authorities towards handling the danger of Corona virus.
As a result in a number of messages, he wrote ‘We are in combat mode in Corona Pandemic and must act in togetherness in State interest’.
Soon in another message, he tweeted ‘Democracy in peril constitution violated.’
Once again coming down heavily on the state government for allegedly not conducting enough tests, the Governor put up a recent video clip of a media interview of NICED Director in the city and said ‘This input by Dr Shanta Dutta Director ICMR NICED Kolkata reveals a very low level of testing of samples in the State. An extensive testing is need of the hour. All responsible officials must be in action mode. Time for all to give 100 per cent to combat Corona Pandemic’.
Also referring to a recent directive of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, he said ‘MHA warnings must lead to correctional approach’ and added that all ‘officials be held accountable for lapses of maintaining Social distancing and religious congregations’.
However, soon realising the concern of the first citizen of the state, Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha went to Raj Bhavan and briefed the Governor about the steps taken by the state government to eliminate or minimize the danger of COVID- 19 in the state.
