Kolkata, 2 January (HS); The West Bengal government today expressed its strong objection and frustration at the outright rejection of the proposed Republic Day tableau of the state by a Defence ministry expert committee in New Delhi yesterday, reportedly citing the reason as unimpressive.
According to a communique issue by the Defence ministry today, the state government proposal for this year’s Republic Day tableau in New Delhi was thoroughly examined by the Expert Committee in two rounds of its meetings.Later it was decided by the Committee not to take the proposal forward for further consideration.
This has enraged the top officials of the West Bengal government who termed as ‘biased’ the rejection of the Defence ministry Expert Committee of the tableau showcasing the success and popularity of Chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s brainchild ‘Kanyashree’ project in the Republic Day parade before a large gathering of people from across the country and abroad.
A similar proposal  highlighting the all round success of Kanyashree was also rejected earlier in 2015  on a similar pretext,a senior Trinamool Congress leader alleged and claimed that the present opposition of the Chief minister and her government against the CAA and NRC might have contributed towards arriving at such a biased decision of the Expert Committee.
Describing Kanyashree as a  very successful  social welfare project which had already benefited
more than six million girls across the state at a cost of over Rs 5,500 crores since its introduction in 2012 and had been well appreciated by a number of world bodies including the United Nations, the government officials claimed that it was very unfortunate that such a project was repeatedly being ignored on flimsy ground.
