Kolkata, June 07 (HS): The Government of West Bengal has finally opened the India-Bangladesh border adjacent to Petropole since Sunday. After the lockdown, a large number of trucks were dispatched to supply the much needed goods between India and Bangladesh, including the ones which could be damaged due to prolonged occupancy.

Despite the Centre’s directive, the West Bengal government had sealed the borders of the two countries, for which the Union Home Secretary had also written a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state, Rajiva Sinha. In the letter, referring to the cordial relations between India and Bangladesh, he directed to open the border as soon as possible. Despite this, the West Bengal government has kept the border closed for about a fortnight.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was constantly questioning the Mamata government about this. Now the District Collector of North 24 Parganas has written to the Petrapole Land Transport Authority, directing them to start the movement of trucks between the India-Bangladesh borders. In the letter, a team of 100 drivers has been asked to be put on standby, so that if any driver turns out to be Corona positive, then he can be replaced. Drivers are also instructed to wear protective suits and follow the health provisions as well. A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Union Home Ministry.
