Bengal Chemical to produce’ Hydroxychloroquine’ in mass scale
Kolkata,10 April(HS): In a major development, Kolkata based Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Company, founded over a century ago by Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, the Father of Indian Chemistry, was today permitted by the West Bengal government as the first unit here to start large scale production of ‘Hydroxychloroquine’ to help meet its growing demand among the medical fraternity for a possible solution to the treatment of COVID-19.
Though currently, we have got enough stock of ‘Hydroxychloroquine’ for the next few weeks, in view of its steady demand nationwide and even abroad, we have decided to ask the state’s renowned pharmaceutical company Bengal Chemicals to start its production in mass scale, official sources quoting West Bengal state Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha here today informed.
Though the Kolkata based company had already accepted the challenge of mass production of ‘Hydroxychloroquine’ in its state of the art factory here, they have sought immediate assistance from the state government and other agencies to help them get the ‘enough quantity of raw materials’ for such a product, the Company sources said.
Incidentally, Bengal Chemical which is very well known in the country for production of a number of medical and other chemical products particularly those like ‘Chloroquine Phosphate’ for the treatment of Malaria and ‘Aqua Psychotic’ for liver-related diseases, will likely to produce over a million tablets every month.
Incidentally, the demand for Hydroxychloroquine tablets for the treatment of Coronavirus has suddenly surged manifold across the country and abroad after American President Donald Trump and his Brazilian Counterpart Jair Bolsonaro had requested Prime minister Narendra Modi for its immediate supply to treat the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in their respective countries.
