BDO stopped the marriage of minor girl
Chapra, 24 June (HS): Amnour BDO Vibhu K today saved a minor girl from getting married. Marriage of a 14-year old girl (name withheld on request), a student of class X of Chapra Abhiman village under Amnour police station was fixed by her father.
Barat was to come on 25 June as other rites were performed. When this news reached the BDO today, he reached the village and stopped the marriage from being performed. Mother of the girl said that husband of elder sister had died and she has a small daughter who needs care. That is why she was being married to the same person for taking care of the kid.
The girl said that she wanted to pursue her studies but she felt helpless before the wish of their parents. She added that she would not marry and would complete her studies first. BDO Vibhu Vivek also persuaded the parents and the villagers from taking this step as child marriage is a crime.
