Baghdad US embassy attacked
New Delhi, July 05, (HS) The US embassy in Iraq’s capital Baghdad was attacked by a missile on Sunday early morning. The US air defense system, Patriot, foiled this attack but one child was injured in this incident.
As per reports, an attempt was made to attack the US embassy in the Green Zone in the middle of Baghdad. But the missile was intercepted by the Patriot air defense system. The missile then fell into a residential building situated near the embassy, injuring a child.
Militants in Iraq have targeted the Green Zone several times, which is located in the high-security area in Baghdad. Since October last year in Iraq, there have been over two dozen attacks on US bases.
It is noteworthy that about 5,200 American troops are stationed with local forces in Iraq. Iran-backed group Hashad al-Shaabi has been carrying out missile attacks against these US forces. Last year, the US launched attacks against the fundamentalist Hashad group in western Iraq. Iran’s top general Qasim Suleimani and his right-hand, Hashad’s deputy chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, were killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad.
