Ayushman Bharat for seniors: PM Modi set to launch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a new phase of Ayushman Bharat, offering health coverage for all citizens aged 70 and above. This expansion under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) will officially be introduced during Ayurveda Day celebrations at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, as Modi announced on social media.
The move aims to cover senior citizens who were previously excluded from the scheme, significantly enhancing support for elderly healthcare.
Under this expansion, seniors from families already enrolled in AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up of up to Rs 5 lakh per year, easing healthcare expenses.
Meanwhile, other seniors aged 70 and above will also receive a family-based cover of Rs 5 lakh. This extension of coverage will reduce the financial strain on families by ensuring that elderly members have access to quality healthcare.
The initiative is a strong step towards universal health coverage, aiming to make healthcare affordable and accessible for all age groups.
It reinforces the government’s dedication to strengthening the healthcare system and addressing the specific needs of vulnerable populations, especially senior citizens.
This development not only supports the elderly but also aligns with the broader goal of achieving healthcare equity across the nation.
Through this initiative, the government reaffirms its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and making quality medical services affordable and inclusive for all.
