Australia’s major grocers put strict limits on purchases of toilet paper

Sydney, Mar 04 (HS): Australia’s big grocery stores have put strict limits on the purchase of toilet paper on Wednesday. Due to fear of the Corona virus, it is being noticed to purchase toilet paper in stores. Australia is the first country to take stringent measures to deal with Corona, preventing the entry of travelers from the epicenter of China a month ago.

There are 42 reported cases of coronavirus in Australia. Most of these were evacuated from a stopped cruise ship in Japan. There have been only three such cases of coronavirus in the country where people who have not gone abroad have been found infected.

Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said in a parliamentary hearing on Wednesday that “We are trying to reassure people that removing all of the lavatory paper from the shelves of supermarkets probably isn’t a proportionate or sensible thing to do at this time.”

The Woolworths Group Ltd, the nation’s largest grocery chain, has limited sales of this essential product to four packs per buyer to increase stock levels. While suppliers are increasing local production. Costco Wholesale Corp has limited it to one pack per customer. Even Prime Minister Scott Morrison has told the public that he has been assured by major grocery stores that they can somehow meet the demand.

Police have confirmed that they were called to a supermarket in Sydney to deal with the mess. According to reports in local media, the authorities had stopped selling toilet paper due to this. Shopkeepers have also imposed control over other products. Costco has placed a limit on the purchase of items such as milk, eggs, rice, disinfectants, and soap. Coles Group Limited reported that it started signaling to suppliers a few weeks ago about the lack of handwash sanitizers and laundry soaps.
