Attendants thrash hospital staff after patient’s death
PRAYAGRAJ, April 23 (HS): After a patient’s attendants allegedly thrashed an on-duty medical following the death of a patient in the early hours of Friday, chaos erupted at SRN (Swaroop Rani Nehru) hospital and surrounding areas for more than six hours within the Kotwali police station’s jurisdiction. Junior doctors and paramedical workers staged a dharna inside the hospital, demanding that the errant attendants be punished. The dharna, however, was called off after senior police and administrative officials promised that the errant attendants would be dealt with.
KP Singh, the Inspector General of Police for the Prayagraj Range, said, “The sequence of events began about 4 a.m., when Zulfiqar, an inspector-rank police official assigned to the legal cell department in Pratapgarh district, and his brothers had an altercation with a junior doctor following the death of his mother at SRN hospital. IG continued, “Senior police officials were told that the inspector’s mother was in a critical condition and that after she died, the inspector and two of his brothers forcefully stormed the ward and allegedly thrashed a junior doctor.
The problem, according to the IG, went wrong when a medical staff member began filming the altercation between medical staff and attendants, and both parties became embroiled in heated arguments. The inspector had raised his voice in response to the recording of a video, and the two parties had a spat. The medical and para-medical personnel on duty quickly gathered on the scene and sat on a dharna, demanding action against the errant attendants. Senior police and administrative officials, as well as police units, raced to the scene and began calming the agitated medical and para-medical personnel so that they could return to work.
The dharna had been called off after senior police and administrative officials promised action against the errant attendants. The errant inspector has also been suspended. “Senior police and administrative officials have been proving the incident through CCTV video and promised the action will be taken,” the inspector general said. He did, however, say that the inspector’s and his brothers’ entrance into the ward was a mistake and that charges would be filed when the investigation was completed.
