Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal has called for the Jat community to be included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list. At a press conference on Thursday, Kejriwal strongly supported the long-standing demand of the Jat community and urged the central government to act.

He also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate inclusion of Delhi’s Jat community in the central OBC list. Kejriwal accused the central government of betraying the community by failing to fulfill promises made years ago.

In his letter, Kejriwal recalled two key instances where promises were made. In 2015, PM Modi assured Jat leaders that Delhi’s Jat community would be included in the central OBC list. Again, in 2019, Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the promise, but no steps have been taken, Kejriwal pointed out. He expressed frustration over the lack of action, saying, “The Jat community in Delhi has been deceived by the central government for the past 10 years in the name of OBC reservation.”

Kejriwal also highlighted the disparity faced by Delhi’s Jat students. He noted that Jat students from Rajasthan qualify for reservations at Delhi University (DU), while students from Delhi’s Jat community are excluded. As a result, many Delhi Jat students are denied admission to DU and other central institutions.

“The Jat community in Delhi is denied benefits in central government institutions despite being listed in Delhi’s OBC category,” he claimed.

The AAP leader alleged that both PM Modi and Amit Shah had assured reservations to the Jat community but failed to follow through on their promises. He criticized the government for forgetting pre-election assurances once the elections are over, adding, “These promises are forgotten afterwards.”

The Delhi Assembly elections are fast approaching, with the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule on Tuesday. The elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with results expected on February 8. The 2025 elections are set to be a tough contest, with AAP, led by Kejriwal, aiming for a third consecutive term. The BJP and Congress are gearing up to challenge AAP’s dominance in the national capital.

As the election date nears, political parties are focusing on key issues like OBC reservations, with Kejriwal’s push for Jat inclusion gaining traction among voters. The promise of justice for the Jat community could play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming elections.
