Many fruits look shiny and fresh but carry hidden pesticides, germs, and bacteria. Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain shared a simple three-step method to clean them properly using baking soda.

The 3-Step Fruit Cleaning Guide

In a March 17 Instagram video, Jain demonstrated how to remove contaminants effectively:

  1. Place fruits in a bowl.
  2. Fill the bowl with water.
  3. Add baking soda and soak for 15 minutes.

She explained that baking soda acts as a powerful cleansing agent, eliminating up to 98% of pesticides and bacteria. After soaking, rinse the fruits thoroughly.

Why Washing Matters

Jain warned that eating unwashed fruits can lead to gut inflammation due to pesticide and toxin exposure. According to the Mayo Clinic, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results from tissue swelling in the digestive tract, often linked to consuming contaminated food.

Fruits may look appealing, but they can carry harmful chemicals. Proper washing ensures safer consumption.
