Are Rahul and Priyanka on different wave-lengths?
Lucknow,July 01(HS)while Congress president Rahul Gandhi is maintaining a stoic silence on many issues, her sister,Priyanka Gandhi Vadra,is doing a lot of talking on law and order and other such problems facing Uttar Pradesh. To common men it is nothing short of jigsaw puzzle .
It is also because of a newspaper report quoting Rahul as saying that no body from the Nehru-Gandhi family should lead the party any more. This had followed the party’s debacle in general elections.
He had openly admitted his failure and owned up responsibility for rout in as many as 14 states. In certain quarters it was appreciated. Priyanka who was appointed to improve party’s position in UP was also a disaster. But she has been reacting differently.
There is a pressure on Rahul from some of the family loyalists to withdraw resignation from the president’s post.He has given a firm NO to all of them. The latest to join the pressure group was Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot. He,too, has received the same answer.
The question here is,if he is not showing much interest in UP or any other state and letting state leaders handle the issues concerning them, why not Prihanka.
In less than a fortnight she has attacked the UP government twice and called the law and order situation worse than other states. The first attack was made after reports of rape in some western part of the state.
She raised the issue again two days ago. This time she appeared more bitter.”Criminals are roaming freely in Uttar Pradesh striking at will….government is unmoved”,she charged through a tweet.”Has the government surrendered before criminals? she has asked.
Armed with facts and figures, the UP police hit back.In last two years (during the BJP rule) over 9000 criminals have been arrested. Eighty one of them have been neutralised,it has retorted.
“Effective action by UP police has led to reduction of 25 to 35 per cent crime. All sensational crime cases( such as rape) were solved within 48 hours”, it claimed.
There is no denying that more encounters have taken place during two years of Yogi rule. Many criminals have either been killed or have surrendered.
Increasing industrialists’ interest in the state is also a proof of improvement in the situation.Projects worth Rs 62,000 crores have already launched.A number of other industrial projects will be launched sometime this month.
