AP Local Body Elections 2020 notification released

Amaravathi(Andhra Pradesh),07 March(HS): Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar today released the election schedule and issued the notification for the elections to MPTC and ZPTCs, Parishads Gram Panchayaths and Municipal Bodies today morning at the state Secretariat here.

Addressing the media, he said the entire poll process will take place in three phases and will be completed by the end of March. Thus with the notification issued the code of conduct will commence immediately.

The first phase of the election will be for MPTC &  ZPTC to be held on March 21 followed by the second phase on March 24. Municipal elections are scheduled to be held on March 27. The counting of votes and declaration of results will be on March  29.

“We have decided to go ahead with the conduct of the elections, ” State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar said. Barring the ruling YSR Congress Party, opposition parties including TDP, Congress and Jana Sena, sought postponement of the elections in view of the coronavirus scare but the objections were overruled.

Earlier yesterday in an all-party meet attended by the state Chief Secretary and DGP it was decided to go with the ballot papers and not EVM’s.
