An attempt by Opposition to encircle Governor failed in Punjab Assembly
Chandigarh, March 1 (H S ):On the first day of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, an attempt by the Opposition to surround the Governor was foiled. After the slogans of ‘Governor Go Back’ by the Opposition, the Opposition stuck to the same path from where the Governor had to go back. Inspite of heavy deployment of marshals, considering the situation, the governor was removed from the same path after the opposition left. The Opposition in the House kept making noise throughout the entire period of the Governor’s address. Nothing could be heard properly in the House. Seeing the situation, the speaker had to leave his speech in the middle. After the speech, the MLAs of Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party came on the road and started chanting slogans from where the Governor was to return. A large number of marshals were deployed. When the Opposition realized that the Governor was being evicted from the other door, the Opposition MLAs left. The Governor was later sent out the same route. It is noteworthy that the Governor was also besieged by the Opposition in the neighboring state of Himachal and lawsuits were also registered against the MLAs. Efforts were made to avert this situation in Punjab.
