Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday that the central government will soon introduce a new counter-terrorism policy and strategy. This initiative aims to tackle national security threats, terrorists, and their networks. Speaking at an anti-terrorism conference in New Delhi, Shah emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to strengthening the fight against terrorism.

Shah noted that while law and order fall under state jurisdiction, terrorism knows no boundaries. Therefore, it is essential for both central and state security agencies to coordinate closely. He stressed the need for joint strategies and intelligence sharing to combat terrorism effectively.

The government has developed a vision for a model anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and special task force (STF) for states and Union territories. These units will serve as a unified platform to confront terrorism. Shah highlighted that all states will play a crucial role in implementing this model, which will foster better collaboration between central and state agencies.

The new policy will ensure better coordination between these agencies, helping them tackle terrorism more efficiently. To facilitate this, the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the ATS and STF models are being shared with state governments. Shah assured that adopting this model would not diminish the rights of the states but enhance their ability to address terrorism.

Looking ahead, Shah emphasized the importance of a unified approach to national security. He reiterated that the government’s goal is to make India a developed nation by 2047, and to achieve this, a cohesive anti-terrorism framework is essential.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014, India has moved forward with a robust anti-terrorism strategy. Shah emphasized that the government remains dedicated to eradicating terrorism and that the world now recognizes India’s zero-tolerance policy towards this global threat.
