Jammu, January 20 (HS): Amid the high profile visit of Union Ministers in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have neutralised three terrorists in an encounter in South Kashmir on Monday. The gunfight broke out in the morning hours in Shopian district of Jammu & Kashmir after receiving inputs, a joint team of the Army, CRPF and J&K police had launched a combing operation in the area against militants.

Reports said that no security personnel was injured in the gun fight. The security forces seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the killed militants. Reports are emerging that one of the slain militants was been identified as Adil Ahmad, a special police officer who had deserted the force in 2018 and decamped with seven AK assault rifles from the official residence of then MLA Wacchi Aijaz Ahmad Mir from Jawahar Nagar area of the city.

The encounter took place when the first batch of Union Ministers has been dispatched to J&K by the Narendra Modi government as part of its outreach programme. The Ministers have been tasked by the Centre to visit villages in both Jammu and the Muslim-dominated Valley to explain the benefits of abrogating Article 370 — the Constitutional provision which guaranteed semi-autonomous state to Jammu & Kashmir.
